Gold Cord

Metal threads are a brilliant addition to many forms of needlework. As well as their traditional role in goldwork, metal threads can add a unique and special look and texture to so many needlework styles. Include a dimensional needle lace gold fish, highlight cross stitch, create rays of sun or moonlight, give butterfly wings a glisten, create realistic rich costumes, add beauty to stumpwork, embellish heraldic symbols and ecclesiastical robes, emboss a book cover, ornament clothing to add a touch of haute couture, enrich and enliven all sorts of stitching and passimentaries.Traditionally metal threads are laid or couched, but they can be used in any stitched, including cross stitch and smocking. They can even be knitted or crotcheted!

Rajcord may be couched or stitched (using a large chenille needle). It is important to use a needle that makes a slightly larger hole than the thread. Tape the ends of the thread, or dip into a tiny spot of nail varnish to prevent fraying. If embellishing or whipping cord, change to a tapestry needle to prevent splitting the cord. A myriad of stitch opportities exist!
